    United States

    • Hosted by: College of Communication and Information
    • Age Restriction: Must be 18 or older to participate
    • About the Organization: The First Star Kent State Academy is a free, comprehensive four-year college access program for youth in foster care. This is part of a year-long Saturday Academy Program, which focuses on academic support, life skills and programming for its scholars.
    • Volunteer Tasks: Volunteers will be welcomed by First Star Academy Program Director Danielle Green-Welch. You will then have lunch and meet the scholars of First Star Academy. Following this casual meet and greet, the workshops will begin. In small groups, volunteers will help the scholars understand the principles of storytelling – through visual arts, social media and more. Scholars will then create their own content on a specific topic. The event culminates with small group presentations from program participants. As this event focuses on storytelling and content creation, participants are required to have careers or volunteer positions in communications.

Registration is no longer available because the registration deadline has passed.
